2 Ways To Repair Your Windshield

Posted on

A chip or crack in your windshield should be repaired as soon as possible because it is very easy for it to get worse, especially in the wintertime. It can also mess up your visibility, which can end up even further obscured if moisture gets in between the layers of glass that make up your windshield. If you have a crack in your windshield, you can get it repaired in a few different ways.

DIY

One of the things that you can do is DIY. You can buy kits at most auto part stores as well as many department stores that have an automotive department. The kits usually consist of some kind of resin, patches, syringes, and something that will help to create some kind of vacuum. The resin may be a two-part product that you are going to have to mix on your own, according to the directions that come with the product. Once you have the resin mixed, then you would need to use the syringe in order to put it into the crack or chip. It may take more resin than you think to fill the space if there is any kind of separation between the layers of glass. Then, if there is a patch, you will need to make sure that you put the patch on according to the directions. The device to create some kind of vacuum may be as simple as a cup that attaches to a syringe that you place over the area of the repair. You need to do this to make sure that you don't have any air bubbles in the repair.

Repair Service

An easier way to get the crack or chip repaired is to work with a windshield replacement or repair service. You can either take your car to them to have it worked on at their shop, or they can come out to where you are and repair the windshield there. One reason for choosing this option is that they are going to have the equipment and products necessary in order to make sure that the repair is done quickly and properly. The tech will also be able to evaluate the damage and tell you if it is too big to be repaired and that you should just replace the windshield.

If you have a chipped or cracked windshield, you need to get it repaired as quickly as you can.
