Simple Facts About Shower Glass Enclosures And Doors

Posted on

To keep your home up-to-date with current trends, you might want to consider adding a glass shower enclosure. Such additions add not only to the appeal of your house but also to the value of your home when you finally choose to sell it. Here are a few things you need to have in mind when choosing the design of the enclosure and the type of glass shower doors.

The Type of Glass Used for Showers

The glass used for building shower enclosures is tempered glass. Tempered glass is made by heating glass to above 600 degrees Celsius, then cooling it under high pressure in a process called quenching. This cools the surface of the glass faster than the center. While the center begins to cool off, it attempts to pull the outer surfaces. The center tenses up while the outer surfaces become compressed. This makes the glass strong, giving it the tempered effect.

Tempered glass is used in showers for safety. This is because it shatters into small pieces. Therefore, broken glass does not fall down and harm you as much.

Type of Finishes

Tempered glass for bathrooms comes in a variety of finishes. You can choose to have a patterned finish that creates an obscure look. This enhances your privacy and helps to hide water stains and fingerprints. Tinted glass shower doors are another option. These come in a variety of colors and depths. You can have a light shade that works to finish off the design in your bathroom. You can choose a darker color to add to the privacy of the shower.

Another popular option is the clear glass option. This works best when you have a shower interior that you want to be visible through the glass. Clear glass has a greenish hint that you could also make use of in finishing your design. The alternative to clear glass is low-iron shower glass. The iron gets rid of the green tint in clear glass, giving it a clear-as-air look. This works to highlight your walls.

Shower Glass Frame Options

You can choose to either have frameless glass shower doors or ones with frames. Framed doors come in handy where you need your shower doors to open outward. They are also great for preventing spilling as the frame traps water. Additionally, they come in many designs that can add to finishing your shower design.

Frameless glass shower doors can open both inwards and outwards. They are also easy to clean and offer a neat finish to showcase your shower design. However, if you need a high door, the framed option would be more stable.
